  • November 2024: Our paper, “Development of physics-based compositional parameters for predicting the reactivity of amorphous aluminosilicates in alkaline environments,” won the 2024 Giatec Award for Best Paper in Sustainability and Construction.
  • November 2024: Dr. Maria Juenger from UT Austin visited us and gave a department seminar on “Tailoring Supplementary Cementitious Material Reactivity for Optimal Concrete Carbon Reduction“.
  • August 2024: A belated welcome to postdoc Zhanzhao Li, graduate students Qiyao He and Chanyeong Park, and undergraduate visiting student Jiabao Zhai.
  • June 18-21, 2024. We attended the 14th Advances in Cement-Based Materials at Missouri S&T, Rolla, MO. Our postdoc, Dr. Weiqiang Chen, gave a talk, “Ionic transport in C-S-H/C-(N)-A-S-H/N-A-S-H nanopores: a molecular dynamics study“; Our student, Samira Hossain, presented a poster, “Elucidating the reaction kinetics and mechanisms in sodium carbonate activated cements“.  
  • May 14-16, 2024: Dr. Gong gave an invited talk, “A material science-based and data-driven approach towards Sustainable and Durable Infrastructureat the ACI Foundation’s 2024 Technology Forum, Santa Fe, NM.
  • May 2024: Our PhD student, Samira Hossain, received 2nd Place in the synthesis category of the Carbon Hub Poster Competition. Well done, Samira!
  • May 2024: Dr. Jiaqi Li visited our group and gave a departmental seminar “Towards Carbon-Negative Cement“.
  • April 2024: Dr. Jincheng Du visited our group and gave a departmental seminar “Understand material-environment interactions through multiscale simulations and machine learning“.

  • August 2023: Our paper “Predicting CaO-(MgO)-Al2O3-SiO2 glass reactivity in alkaline environments from force field molecular dynamics simulations” is awarded with the Cement and Concrete Research 2021 Le Chatelier Medal. This medal is awarded to the best paper published each calendar year in Cement and Concrete Research.

  • June 6-9, 2023: Dr. Gong presents “Composition-structure-reactivity relationship for aluminosilicate glasses in alkaline environment” at the 2023 EMI Conference, Georgia Tech, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
